Ann Baldwin May Art Quilts – Ann Baldwin May

5:00 pm – 9:00 pm

1001 Center Street #4

Like painting but with fabric-a  celebration of abstract art quilts.  Texture! Color! Movement! I choose the colors. I couch(zigzag) decorative threads to create texture. I cut up these pieces to use as fabric. I put them on my design wall. I add other pieces of fabric.I sew them together into a top.  I quilt the three layers((top, batting, backing) together randomly moving the quilt side to side  to create movement.

Just accepted into Open Studios,2017.

Kaiser Permanente recently bought two of my trees for display in their Scotts Valley facility.

SAQA, the international group of Studio Art Quilt Associates started in 1989  in Northern CA. Yet, this art form is still new to many. I look forward to sharing my passion with Santa Cruz.

“You are taking an old tradition and making it new, reinventing it into contemporary art.”

“Oh, I didn’t realize from the photo that this was a quilt.”
