Bhody is happy to be showcasing Christopher Allen this May for First Friday! His recycled art is so inovative and extremely creative. Come join us for Wine, and snacks and view Christopher Allens incredible work.
My name is Christopher Allen, and I came to Santa Cruz in 1996 to attend UCSC. I have worked as an educator in some capacity for the last 15 years, and as a recycled materials artist for the last three years. I was first drawn to art by several things: the sudden loss of a full time job, an insatiable desire to work with my hands, and an abundance of available materials.
I have always loved the idea of re-purposing, of taking everyday objects and using them in different, creative ways. I work primarily with recycled bottles, salvaged plywood and barnwood, wire, scrap metal, spray paint, and other found materials. I often use the context of my found materials to create social and political commentary. I like incorporating elements of pop-culture, literature, music, and poetry. I also like playing with juxtaposition between natural and man-made materials, between concrete and abstract representations of objects and ideas, and the effects of light, shadow, and texture.
I am constantly inspired by the world around me. I hope you enjoy the show. Remember: Art is Everywhere!
