First Friday is an exciting monthly event that continues to grow and change. Each month more people discover the many creative venues throughout Santa Cruz, and even more return to experience First Friday again and again.
We encourage new venues to participate and have established the following 1-2-3 Guide to Getting Started as well as tips to help you get the most out of the event.
Getting Started as a First Friday Venue
We’ve tried to streamline the process and make it easy for venues to participate. Follow the step-by step instructions below. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
Create a username and password for your account. Make sure to use a log in and password you will remember. You will be asked to enter it a few times at first. You’ll use this log in to edit your venue profile, update your events and manage your account.
2- Buy Credits.
Manage your account and purchase credits securely on Paypal. Venue participation costs $60 per month, $300 for 6 consecutive months, or $540 for a full consecutive year. Once you purchase credits you will be able to set up your venue profile and submit events. – remember submissions must be received by the 20th of the month to be listed in the Good Times pull out.
3- Edit your Venue profile
Log in and update your Venue Profile. This is where you enter information about your venue. This information will only change when you decide to change it. This is also where you enter your event information each month.
4- Find an Artist
Artists are the core of First Friday. If you already have an artist or artists on board, great! If you are looking for an artist, let us direct you to the First Friday Artist Registry. You can search by medium, or just browse the incredible talent. The Registry allows you to contact the artist directly through the site.
5- Submit Event
Log in to your Venue Profile and add your upcoming event. To be included in the Good Times you must submit your event by the 20th of the month preceding First Friday.
Tips for Venues
- Rotating Exhibition of Art
This is an Art Tour, and people are out to experience art. Ideally you’ll feature a new Artist or show for each month. Some venues have a longer rotation (6-8 weeks), which is fine, but chances are the second month of the same show won’t be as popular. Do what you can keep it fresh.
- Make it an Event
Have fun with it! First Friday is a party. Make sure your featured artist will be there, if possible. Bring in a band, have some libations. Be creative.
- Be Patient
If you are a new venue, don’t give up. Sometimes it takes several tries to create a scene. Be persistent and consistent.
- Don’t Be Late
To be included in the Good Times centerfold pull out, payment and event submissions must be received by the 20th of the preceding month. If it is not received by the 20th, you will not be included. No Exceptions.
