My name is Kenna and I am a Santa Cruz local, born and raised on the East Side. I've been working full-time as an artist for the past year and half and am looking to become more connected with the SC art scene!
Where It Began
Since I was a little girl, I’ve loved drawing women. Even from a young age my art featured women and highlighted my own curiosity with sensuality, focusing on the body and its tie to eroticism. I was lucky enough to have these artistic passions fostered by supportive parents and carried my creativity into my adult life. However, the lack of varied fat representation in fine art bothered me as I began to enter established artistic spaces and is what eventually drew me to making paintings of my own. I wanted to see depictions of fat bodies that were as beautiful and vibrant as I feel they deserve. Bodies like my own, that are often considered undesirable or obscene, are celebrated in my vivid paintings. My art depicts bodies and sexuality as bright and as decadent as I experience them to be.
My art provides representation for plus-size and sexual bodies that combat mainstream expectations, showcasing their natural shapes while decorating them with bright colors and linear abstraction. It invites you to celebrate your body and sexuality without inhibition and with joy.
