Laurie is an artist whose many years of working with ceramics, fiber arts, surface design, book arts and found objects assemblage find their full expression in her current work.
Much of her professional life has been dedicated to protecting our natural heritage of rivers and oceans.The plight of the Laysan Albatross ( photo credit; Jeff Bleam) inspired two of my current pieces (Laysan Lunch and Pelagic Diner).
As a river rafting and sea kayaking guide she raised awareness of the threats to their existence. As a leader in California river campaigns she secured funds to restore them. Subsequently she worked as a facilitator of collaborative environmental and public policy. From 2002-2012 she served as Campus Ombuds and mediator at University of California, Santa Cruz.
