In my photo collection from Iceland, geology is the artist.  Glaciers veiled in volcanic ash, geothermal steam in the air, bubbling mud, the edge of a town covered in lava.  The photographer is the messenger bringing visions of pristine tundra, vast uninhabited places, scarcely punctuated by small towns painted in bright colors.  The scale of the topography proved worth packing a great lens.
