I was born in Anchorage, Alaska but for the most part I grew up in San Antonio, Texas. I have lived in some incredibly beautiful places throughout Texas, California, Colorado and Alaska. I discovered a beautiful little coastal town where the redwoods meet the sea and made it my home. I've lived in Santa Cruz, CA going on twenty years now. I live in the picturesque downtown in a cozy Victorian flat with big bay windows, my small studio and my Love, John.
I've studied art and creative writing with some really terrific teachers at the University of Texas in San Antonio, UT Austin, Austin Community College, the Naropa Institute, Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz and the Neoteric Renaissance School of Art. I have mentored under artists Lisa Silas and Matthew Riggs, both alumni of the Florence Academy of Art. I have studied in online atelier programs and realist workshops with multiple classical art instructors, including Artist/Educator Sadie Valerie and Water colorist Mario Robinson. I maintain a strong focus right now on developing my skills as a representational artist while beginning to explore symbolism and develop my personal points of view. I also have a fascination with imaginative forms and have a series of work not included in the ten photos we put here.
What engages me the most about making art is the process - process as participation in a creative force that we are a ripple of. I have found that in the process of creating, you are doing a whole lot of forgetting. You forget your doubts about what you can and cannot do, you forget the words of your lessons and for a minute you may actually forget yourself. It is in this way that you actually come to remember even things you did not know you knew. You find answers to many questions and if you are really engaged in the process your best results evolves naturally.
