William E. Ferre is a local artist with a gift for realism. Painting mostly in oils with the occasional watercolor he has a remarkable innate ability to capture details and reflections in his art. Born in Southern California in 1949, William started sketching what he saw very early in his life. At 18, he moved to Santa Cruz and studied with local artists who encouraged him to cultivate his natural talent for realism. Introduced to the world of watercolor and oils, he painted for fun until 2005 when he retired from full time employment at the local cememt plant in Davenport.
William photographs local scenes and then explores the composition he wants. Next he draws the picture in pencil and then proceeds to paint. Many have commented that his oils of our beautiful Santa Cruz area trigger memories of happy experiences. William also enjoys painting scenes of interactions between people in other cultures, such as "Bolivia". Many people have commented that these paintings make them feel as if they are actually present and deeply connected with the people in the painting.
