Digital Art

I am a working artist in Santa Cruz, California. I have my Bachelor's degree in Art from San Jose State University with an emphasis in Textiles/Batik/Silk Painting. BATIK is a resist process of using hot wax and dyes to create a design on fabric. The results are often unexpected, as the crackling of the wax can make or break a piece, but that is truly what got me hooked. Working with fabric is good for my soul. I love both cotton and silk although they are very different. There is a similarity with watercolor; the flow of the paint has much the same effect as the flow of dye on silk.

I consider myself a DESIGNER foremost. The medium I choose makes a difference of course. But the original design remains and can be used within a variety of different mediums, not only BATIK and watercolor, but I also see them as woodcuts, stained glass, etc.

I want people to know my mission. I want my designs to awaken and connect my viewers to the beauty of the natural world with the hope of inspiring environmental stewardship in their daily lives. The diversity of life on our planet is such a gift but it is fragile. It is under siege by those who do not seem to understand that this precious life cannot be taken for granted. It is NOT capable of withstanding the onslaught of chemicals, clear cutting, plastic pollution, irreverent hunting (trophy hunting), GMO's, acid rain, global warming, and the like. This Native American quote says it all, "WE do not inherit the land from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children".

As an avid environmentalist and animal lover, I want my artwork to provide an awareness that animals are an integral part of our planet. Between habitat loss, human greed, human cruelty, and the apparent need for MAN to dominate all life forms, wildlife is declining at an unprecedented rate, and cruelty to domestic animals is rampant. As my subject, I have chosen BIRDS to represent all animal life: their beauty, their fragility; their decline. Each design will hopefully help to create a greater awareness of the place of animals in this increasingly overpopulated world.

25% of the profit from the sale of my work will go to one of these non-profits: Audubon, Ocean Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, League of Conservation Voters, Earth Justice, Santa Cruz SPCA, Pelican Harbor Seabird Station, Santa Cruz Native Animal Rescue, Rainforest Action Network. There are others but I am currently evaluating all the organizations I have been supporting as I want to support those that do the most good. So know that your purchase is helping the plight of all wildlife and domestic animals.

I love the process of creating new designs. I do accept commissions and can create an original for you. I take inspiration from my clients, deliver three sketches from which to choose, and then render the final watercolor or BATIK. You pay nothing until you see and choose to purchase the work that you inspired. If you do not want, I will put it up for sale. This works very well for all.

Thank you for viewing my page.
