Cristina Sayers
Drawing
Growing up living life by the shore of this Gypsy-Hippy-Surf-Technicolor town should be accompanied with a funky soundtrack, subtitles, and patchouli scented incense. My work is a love letter to my home town full of home town pride, sentiment, and freedom.
-Cristina Sayers
Cristina- A Santa Cruz native who is also a Mother, Wife, & humble self taught artist. A life long resident of SC, her work is directly influenced by this unique seaside community.
As a child of the 70's she has fond memories of her experiences with the vibrant local life in and around town. She loved beach volleyball weekends, walking along the deer trail at Hidden Beach, brunch and live jazz at the Cooper house, Polar Bear ice cream, and movie matinees at the Capitola Theater.
Art work-
Cristina's work is most often art satire, uniquely quirky, tongue-n-cheek, Ocean Aquarium; whimsical sea creatures and subjects native to our community. Her paintings are created with a combination of acrylic paint, Free Domain photographs, local newspaper publications, retired phone books, vintage fruit labels, and other found paper sources.
She practices in the art mediums of Acrylic Abstract, Mixed Media, and Photomontage.
Within the process of mixing, drawing, and selecting historical photographs, she develops her vision of Santa Cruz into art.
Cristina is a proud Mother of 4 children. She has 3 daughters, (Jessica, Addison, and Harlow) and 1 son (Keone). She is also a Grandmother to Tullalah, Thurston & Hazel. Her husband of 25 years, Johnny AKA Man Cub, is her tall, patient, loving, and supportive partner. He is a coach of local youth sports and is a Proffessional Frozen Vegetable Pimp by trade.
