If you haven't been out for a first Friday event, we know it can be a little intimidating. What's it going to be like? What should I know? Am I cool enough to go? What should I wear?
We know you've got lots of questions. Well fret not. We've got answers. and yes, you are totally cool enough! Come out and have a great time. And don't forget to share your adventure and #firstfridaysantacruz.
When is First Friday?
Well, believe it or not it happens on Friday, but mind you, not every Friday, just the First Friday of every month.
Every month. Rain or Shine.
It varies at each location. Some get going as early as noon, some stay open pretty late. Most of the events happen in the evening between 5 pm and 9 pm. Check the event listings for specifics.
How do I know where to go?
I just said to check the event listings. Are you not paying attention? You can check out the Map to see where the participating locations are this month to plan your night, or you can pick up a Good Times to see the listings. Also make sure to check social media, cause all of your friends will be posting where they are and tagging #firstfridaysantacruz. You should do that too, so your friends know how culturally sophisticated you are.
Where do I start?
That's totally your call. You can start at any location and spend as much time as you want there. Then you can go wherever the mood takes you. Some people like to start at the MAH or the Blitzer or the Tannery and meet their friends there to kick off the night. You can do what ever you want.
How do I get there?
That's a good question. First Friday Santa Cruz happens all over the County in lots of great neighborhoods. It's pretty easy to plan your First Friday adventure to minimize driving, or even to experience the event without a car. Parking Downtown on First Friday can be a little challenging. We really recommend the Garages. There's usually space and they're pretty cheap. Of course, you can use lyft or uber, or from most places Santa Cruz Pedi Cabs can come get you. Whatever you do, if you are going to drink while you're celebrating First Friday. Do not Drive.
Can I bring my kids?
Totally, First Friday Santa Cruz is for all ages and there are often great events and exhibits especially geared toward the younger art enthusiast. There are also some great places Downtown that kids of a certain age can stay for a while while you enjoy First Friday like a grown up.
Can I bring my mom?
Of course. Mom's Love First Friday. In fact, you should buy her some art. She loves art.
Can I bring my dog?
You can bring your Dog to First Friday. Many of the locations are pet friendly and will welcome your well behaved dog. It gets pretty crowded in a lot of places, so if you're talking about Clifford, probably leave him at home. To be sure, you would be best to check with each location ahead of time.
Can I bring my Alligator?
No. That's just weird.
How much does it cost?
It's Free. No Charge. Gratis. This is a gift to you from the host locations. Thank them, consider doing a little shopping while you're there. Don't go crazy on the cheese and crackers and with all that money you're not spending for a ticket to the best party of the month, you can buy some really cool local art.
Wow, this sounds like an amazing event!
Yeah, it's pretty cool, huh?
