Judy has long had a fascination with the healing potential of art – she was formerly the director of the Palo Alto art school Art for Well Beings – and now since relocating to Watsonville last year, she has a close-up view of the local farms blessed by an abundance of top-notch strawberries, lettuce, and mushrooms, she has become much more aware of the healing potential of foods, too.

“Some of the squash we’ve seen here are stunning – artworks in themselves,” Judy says. “Through painting, I get to honor these plants, and it’s amazing that we can ingest all that beauty and it helps to restore our bodies. This is my opportunity to interpret and consider the paths of these plants, their rhythms and transformations. A humble squash contains stories about the cycle of nutrients passing through sunlight, water and soil, the trials and tribulations of farm workers, the sights and sounds of the place where they grew.”

When Judy, a lifelong artist met Mark Kaltenbacher, proprietor of Central Coast Juicery, it was one of those “Eureka!” moments.

She knew right away that Mark’s juice bar would be an ideal place to showcase her recent paintings. Her current exhibit, “Delectable Vegetables,” highlights the beauty, spiritual ramifications and of course the nutritional aspects of growing and consuming fresh produce just like Nature intended.
