Amy Allen is an artist and chaplain who holds a BA in Creative Arts from San Jose State University, an MDiv from Starr King School for the Ministry, and an interfaith ordination from The Chaplaincy Institute. Because of the role that creativity plays in her spiritual life, and vice versa, Amy considers art a facet of her chaplaincy. Interaction with community is important to her work.
Artist Statement
The “Portrait of a Space” exhibit at The Nook Hair Salon is an experimental, process oriented, works-in-progress project that has been informed by the patrons who energize the space.
The First Friday show is the result of the last three months’ span of creation, from blank canvases to finished artworks. The “paint” used is primarily leftover hair color and other salon materials have been incorporated, including hair clippings and highlighting foils.
