Big Basin Vineyards Wine Bar: Randie Silverstein Glass and Jack Mento Abstract Painting

June 7 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Big Basin Vineyards Wine Bar presents Randie Silverstein's "Looking Up: Elemental Forces in Glass" and Jack Mento's "Without and Within" Abstract Paintings
Come and see two distinct but incredibly colorful shows this month!

Randie's piece features over 20 glass discs that hang suspended from the ceiling in an array of colors and shapes and sizes. Some seem to glow from the inside, as a pulse moves the light around the circumference of some of them, while others are illuminated from within. This whimsical display of glass evokes both the cosmos as well as underwater coral and creatures. It's hard not to want to lay on your back underneath them, but then, how would one drink one's wine? Jack's lively and colorful abstract paintings are the perfect pairing. Explore the explosion of color and line! Installed in Big Basin Vineyard's Tasting Room and Wine Bar, there is no reason to go anywhere as long as your glass is full. But don't pass up the opportunity to taste a flight– or compare vintages of your favorite varietal. Meet our First Friday artists Randie Silverstein and Jack Mento Friday evening 5-9pm.

About Randie Silverstein
I spend a lot of time making glass art. Living in such a gorgeous spot on the planet like Santa Cruz allows me to draw inspiration from the shapes and colors of nature around me, in all its infinite mystery and all its unrivaled beauty. I discovered glass late in my artistic career. It was unexpected and I completely immersed myself in learning all I could about fusing glass. Its spectrum of color, visual texture, and the aspects of light and transparency seduced me, but it was ultimately its transformation in the kiln which convinced me that this was a curiosity I needed to seriously pursue. In this most recent installation, I choose to integrate the glass into the rooms ceiling, playing with shadow and light. Often my pieces have a sense of whimsy and humor but mostly they have color!
