About the Artist:
Nana Montgomery is a Santa Cruz-based artist whose contemporary quilts blend traditional textile techniques with fine art sensibilities. Drawing from a surrealist tradition, her work explores emotional complexity and universal themes like love, life, and death through symbolic figures and natural elements such as fire and water. Using a layered process that combines cotton fabrics, paint, and embellishments, Nana creates visually striking pieces that aim to engage both the heart and mind. Trained in painting and drawing at UC Santa Cruz and holding an MFA from San Francisco State University, her global travels and personal experiences continue to shape her work. Nana’s quilts have been exhibited throughout the Bay Area and beyond, and when she’s not creating, she works as a social worker for the VA and runs her own graphic design business, Blue Shark Design.
