“My quilts are a chance for me to learn from my materials and to give them a second life. Most of my fabric is sourced second-hand from places like the Fábrica or local thrift stores. I incorporate natural dyes, some of which are locally foraged, and the slow and steady practice of hand quilting, which allows me to infuse the pieces with memory and stories.”
Opening reception with the artist Friday 5/2 6-9pm. **Masking indoors at this event is greatly appreciated.**
Annalie Taylor was raised in the California Bay Area. Her work is deeply rooted in cycles of nature as well as current political and cultural climates. Her media include textiles such as natural dyes and quilting, print-making, and performance. She enjoys working in close relation to sites, learning from landscapes, and considering relationships between art, artist, and land. Annalie’s work is informed by the study of embodied cognition, a psychological theory that believes that knowing is deeply tied to the body and its interactions with the surrounding environment. Through this lens, she strives to create art that communicates with people on a sensory level and pursues art-making through an intuitive trust and appreciation for the body.
