K. Lee Manuel, a visionary artist from the Santa Cruz Mountains, was a pioneer of the American wearable art movement. She believed that art should be lived in, not locked away. Her handcrafted garments—now held in the collections of the Smithsonian, the de Young, and the Museum of Art and Design—transcended fashion to become expressions of story, spirit, and personal truth.
This exhibition features a rare collection of her feather collars and a 1970’s dress of pure poetry—works that blur the line between garment and sculpture, ritual and adornment.
