Wisdom Center of Santa Cruz Welcomes:
Raised in the village of Ohiat, a remote village on the West coast of Vancouver Island, BC, Johhny has multi tribal ancestry which includes the Nootka, Saanich, Snohomish, Duwamish and Cheamus tribes.He was trained throughout his life by many different Elders and encouraged by them to share with all people. He is an ambassador of the Northwest Cultures and is gifted in traditional and contemporary storytelling, traditional dancing, singing, healing and he speaks 9 different languages. All of these are highlighted in his artwork. As an artist Johnny is able to tell his stories through his art while including traditional and non traditional symbolism mixed with humor to show that all living beings have spirits. Through his paintings, drawings, bead work and making of ceremonial regalia, Johnny is able to show us how creativity in all its various mediums, are interwoven and expressed within his art. In this way he shows us a “way of life” and what it means to him.
