Fine Art “pop up” on First Friday, September 6th 2024

Scenius- the intelligence of a whole community.

CaliCaricature from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk will be exhibiting a fantastical collection of works on paper. The artwork is created collectively by a group of caricature artists. This one night pop-up exhibit will be held at Swift Street Fitness (ArtWorkSpace).

As well as working as caricature artists, these artists are a distinctive crew of painters, animators, digital artists, stop motion creators and story-board artists to name a few.

This exhibit was created in the studio of Karen Ehlers at the ArtWorkSpace on Swift street. It is an accumulation created over the past two years.

The game plan for the group was to draw from a classic still life in the center of the table. The challenge was to draw with a time restriction (much like musical chairs). The artist would draw, paint, collage from the still life for one song and then move to the left to the next drawing.

This process is fast and fun, with each artist adding, enhancing and changing each other's progress. They only had time to react to the work and not over think it. This process was continued until the group collectively reached agreement that the artwork was done.

In addition to this pop-up exhibit, Karen Ehlers will be opening up her studio to showcase several of these artist personal artwork and sketchbooks.

This exhibit will be on display for only one evening; Friday September 6th from 5:00-9:00 at Swift Street Fitness (ArtWorkSpace), 509 H Swift Street Santa Cruz.
