Beth Purcell Artist Statement
I am a self-taught mosaic artist of 25 years. Each tiny piece is hand cut out of ceramic tiles, dishes, antique china, bits and pieces. Part of the process for me is the collecting of the material. I am a collector/hunter/gatherer at heart and I love this aspect of my art. My neighbors anonymously deposit beautiful broken china along my fence, or a chipped teapot wrapped meticulously on my front porch.

I dream of earthquakes. My inspiration comes from all over. Tribal rugs, valentine cards, children’s books, quilts, my dreams, my travels, folk art. I have created pieces big and small, for personal enjoyment and for larger public installations, from Mexico to England. I have gotten so much peace and pleasure out of creating something from the broken and discarded. I hope that feeling comes across as you experience these pieces
