Show: Weather and the Whale, on display May 29, 2025 until March 8, 2026

Weather and the Whale is a major exhibition project featuring immersive displays of original science research and newly commissioned contemporary artworks. Working at the intersections of art and science to connect people to the impacts of climate change, the projects brings leading artists into collaboration with marine ecologists at the Friedlaender Lab at UC Santa a Cruz

Featured artists in this exhibit are:
@lacaycedo @sharondanielartist @__ashley_hunt__ @courtneymleonardart , John jota leaños , Libia Posado, Mia Eve Rollow, Christine Howard Sandoval, Suné Woods and Whale Liberation Front

Open Tuesday - Sunday, 12-5pm - Free admission and open to all.

On First Friday Aug 1 - we had the privilege of being able to see @northcoasttintypes new studio space on Squid Row!

There’s always something so special about seeing not just the artists produced works — but the workshop behind them.

Tin Types have a unique photographic process, where a direct positive image is created on a thin sheet of metal. They were popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

On First Friday, you have a unique opportunity to connect with the artists behind the works you love, including sometimes seeing their curated spaces where they produce the magic ✨

@homelessgardenproject_store has the best gifts! Products in their store are had made by program trainees and sourced locally from the @homelessgardenproject farm here in Santa Cruz 🪻🐝

There’s a wide range of all natural bath and body products, organic foods, and beverages…something for everyone! 🥂🎁💐

All proceeds to the homeless garden project store support the homeless garden project nonprofit programs.

This last first Friday, the shop was also featuring artist Karen Ann Perkins, with her bold and vibrant contemporary artworks. Karen works in mixed media pastels, acrylic paints, and watercolors.

What is the first Friday Artist Registry?

The First Friday Artist Registry is an online directory where artists can showcase their work and connect with venues interested in hosting art for upcoming First Friday events.

By signing up, artists gain:

✨Visibility: Your work becomes discoverable to local galleries, shops, and event spaces that participate in First Friday throughout the county!

✨Opportunities: Venues often use the registry to find new artists to feature during their monthly events.

✨Resources: Registered artists receive access to a list of participating art spaces and galleries, helping you reach out and arrange your own exhibitions or collaborations.

As fans of all things creative, whimsical and stra

As fans of all things creative, whimsical and strange — We adored Peter Koronakos’ Oddball Animal Show at Artisans and Agency this last First Friday.

🦊This year’s show, entitled Artist’s Favorites: Oddball Animals 2025, opened on July 1, which featured a cast of 15 delightful, whimsical and/or humorous animals! There were sheets of paper that encouraged the viewer to try and pinpoint certain objects, connecting you to the works, pushing you to look a little closer at each piece. This aspect of the show was really engaging and brought an air of curiosity and fun to the viewing experience.

🦔Koronakos’ works consist of found, collected, and re-purposed materials. Koronokos’ has been curating animal sculptures for over 20 years using these found and repurposed materials and objects, intentionally researching animals before scavenging for the parts that make them uniquely what they are.

🐒You still have time to see this exhibit at Artisans and Agency, @artisansscruz as the show is running through to July 31st.
